Simple as That
Four years ago, my 85 year old father-in-law, several times retired but still a preaching pastor called to share his excitement. His enthusiasm made us excited, too. Earlier that evening he went down the street to buy hamburgers for their dinner. He placed his order and sat down. His pant leg was up, revealing the support hose that he wore to help his circulation.
Another customer had placed her order and as she was waiting, she noticed his hose. She asked, "Where did you get your...umm..?"
"My support hose?!" he offered.
"I got them at Walmart."
"Really. I haven't been able to find any. I've got so many problems" she said.
Without skipping a beat, he said, "Do you want to know someone who can help you with your problems?"
"Why, yes! That would be great!"
"Do you know Jesus Christ?"
"Would you like to know Him?"
He proceeded to give her a simple presentation of the Gospel. They prayed, and she asked Jesus to be her Lord and Savior right there! The clerk called out that their orders were ready, they picked them up, and went their separate ways.
My father-in-law was ready to share because Jesus was foremost in his thoughts. He heard her need, and offered her Jesus Christ, the living bread of life. God had prepared her heart, and now she is His child. Simple as that.
Support hose. Hamburgers. Meeting someone at their physical point of need, and pointing them to the All-Sufficient One who seeks to meet the eternal needs of their heart. Simple as that.
As we focus on the most amazing Gift of Christmas, it is a perfect opportunity to share Jesus with those around us. What will your family hear as you share about your day?
